DEATH OF THE REV. JAMES DREDGE 1846 |

At sea, on the 5th May, 1846, 150 miles distant from the Land's End, the Rev. James Dredge, late Wesleyan Missionary, at Geelong, and formerly Assistant Protector of Aborigines in this district, and a magistrate of the territory. Mr. Dredge's health which was considerably impaired before he left Port Phillip, gradually improved during the early part of voyage; but failed subsequently. The "Arab" reached the Thames four days after his decease; his remains were interred in London, and were followed to the grave by several leading Wesleyan Ministers resident in London, including the Rev. Dr. Jabez Bunting, the Rev. J. Buchan, and the Rev. Elijah Hoole, General Secretaries of the Wesleyan Missionary Society. During the voyage Mr. Dredge received marked attention from Captain Joseph and Mrs. Dalgarno.
